Me, The Runner

I've always considered myself a runner. Not that I've always ran. But that's just what I do when I want to get in shape. In middle school, I ran track and cross country, but once I got to high school, I gave it all up for swimming, hallelujah.

My brother Bremen is a running all star. He went to state every year. He's done several marathons, including the Boston one. He lives in Mali, Africa and runs with the incredibly fast Africans. He is a skinny sight to behold.

My sister Maggie is also a runner. She ran all through school, and continues even now... years later. Her forte is keeping a fast pace for long distances. She kills me when we run together.

Clarification: Me, the distance runner.

We Leaks run distances.

So, with that said, I have to admit I have NEVER done a workout program. Crazy, huh? I mean... I've tried the 8 minute abs on youtube a few times. I've almost died while attempting yoga (that's another story for another time). And I've has a go with strength circuits at various gyms. But I've never stuck with anything for longer than a week, besides running, that is.

So about a month ago, I started running and things were going well.

Then on Fast Sunday, a man stood up and talked about waking up at 5:30am to work out. I laughed in my head as I vowed I would NEVER do that. Two hours later, I was listening to an announcement for Relief Society workout mornings that would start the following day. Psh...

Two weeks ago, I started 6am workouts every MWF. So imagine my surprise....

shock....

glee...

delight...

when I began seeing REAL results from these morning workouts. I guess it's common knowledge, but this is new to me.

I'm realizing that running is great cardio. It makes me feel energized, healthy, strong, happy... but it does not transform a body. And let's face it... mine needs to be transformed.

Right now my back, arms, hams, and abs are sore, and those are great places to be sore, I'd say.

So thanks Jillian Michaels, Tony Horton, and Tracy Anderson (and Jandee... my workout buddy) for kicking my rear into gear so early in the mornings. It's paying off, and I can feel it!

YAY for results!
I am the same way.. I have a deep love for running and I would kind of make fun of workout videos before. After doing P90x and actually seeing good results, I am less skeptical.

What workouts are you doing?

Girl, I do 6 am runs too. It's so nice to just get it done and have the rest of the day to feel good. Come do the Utah Valley marathon with me - you know you want to :)
